My Most Recommended Book

My most recommended book is Boomtown.

Sam Anderson is a GOAT, living among us.

He cares so much about making sentences sparkle and making the reader laugh.

He has studied the greats.

Boomtown tells the history of Oklahoma, including the day of the land grab where people lined up on the border and all ran in to claim land when they heard the starting gun shots.

He also covered the OKC Thunder, which he splices in throughout the book.

He wrote on James Harden's beard and press conferences:

"This I came to believe was one of the essential functions of Harden's enormous beard: to give people something to stare at while the man himself said nothing, at great length, into all of the microphones he was professionally obligated to speak into..
Sports interviews are a particular form of non-conversation and this was particularly true in OKC, where a typical media session was a call and response of non-questions and non-answers so relentlessly empty that it became almost profound like the chanting of Buddhist monks."

Absurdly good.
